PowerChart Login Issues

Attention all PowerChart Users:

It has been reported that there are sporadic login and freezing issues within PowerChart related to a UMC Imprivata upgrade taken yesterday. Due to this upgrade, incompatibilities were identified that directly impacted login capabilities.

Currently, efforts for a resolution are being developed by Cerner and UMC.

Some steps for temporary “fixes” have been identified if you find yourself kicked out of the system or frozen:

  • o   If frozen, exit out and reboot if necessary (cntrl + alt + delete, )
  • o   If kicked out, you may reboot if you wish, but steps below demonstrate how to disconnect a Citrix session, that allows you to re-login to Cerner without rebooting the whole computer. This will allow multiple attempts at new Citrix sessions until one allows you to log on successfully.
  • o   If you successfully gain access, do not “exit” but rather just log out, so the session is not ended an allow others to login without issue.

Due to both freezing and inability to log in, please remember to SAVE OFTEN so your work will have a better chance of not being lost.

Again, Cerner and the onsite teams are working on a resolution. Apologies for the inconvenience. Updates will be provided as the situation changes.

Disconnecting a Citrix Session:

In the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, search for the hidden icons arrow, or the icon for Citrix Receiver.

Right-click on the receiver icon and select the connection center

Highlight the active sessions you may have up and “disconnect” each one

When finished, close out and try opening PowerChart again

Note: this is also a way to tell what server you are on for future trouble-shooting calls with the HELP Desks

Drug-Diagnosis Contraindication Alert

In order to improve the safety of our electronic health record and to adhere to recommended Leapfrog guidelines, it has been determined that an alert will be turned on this week for Drug-Diagnosis contraindication. This alert will fire when a medication is added to the scratchpad (you write an order for a medication) of a patient’s chart that is contraindicated with a documented problem/diagnosis that the patient has. The list of these contraindications have been approved by the IT Pharmacist as well as Medication Clinical Decision Support (mCDS) committee Chair (Dr. Payne).

This alert was approved in November Use and Standards committee. This will impact both the inpatient as well as the outpatient settings.

If you find that your patient's problem list is not reflective of their current state (i.e., alert states drug contraindication with kidney failure, kidney failure on problem list, but patient no longer has active kidney failure), please promptly update the problem list so that it will be correct and no longer fire alert notifications. Again, if the problem list is inaccurate and you do not reconcile the problem list the alert will continue to fire.

Adult Outpatient Surgery Plan Update

In an effort to align with hospital policy regarding renal dosing for enoxaparin (Lovenox), we updated the Adult Outpatient Surgery plan and subsequently destroyed any physician favorite plan that contained the affected enoxaparin order.

This was a patient safety change that was put into policy over a year ago.  The changes to all other plans were made many months ago, but it was recently brought to our attention that the Adult Outpatient Surgery plan had been missed with that round of changes.

We apologize for any issues this may have caused with staff and providers.  Let us know if you have any questions or need more information on what was changed.

UMC Ambulatory Infusion Center: IV Therapy Orders

***Correction: Previous reports showed this as a UMCP effort. It is in fact a UMC, not UMCP, infusion center. We apologize for the inconvenience.

UMC has recently opened an Ambulatory Infusion Center.  As a result, the order for Home IV therapy will no longer display as “Social Services for Home IV Therapy”.   It will now show as “Social Services for IV therapy”.  In the details box you will be required to pick a location of either “Home” or “Ambulatory Infusion Center”

Coming Soon: Sepsis Plan

Coming soon, a new Sepsis Plan will become available. You will notice within the plan, the Antimircrobial Therapies available for use, based on Sepsis Source.

Each of these is a sub-phase that can be ordered by itself, or within the plan. Antibiotics and guidelines for use can be found once the sub-phase is opened.
