ISSUE WITH ANDROIDS IN POWERCHART TOUCH MEDIA GALLERY

Issue:

  • Cerner known issue with Android users in PowerChart Touch Media Gallery.

  • User takes photo within the Media Gallery Component and the image type is defaulting to profile photo.

  • Users are unable to change the image type, potentially leaving sensitive photos as the patients new profile photo.

Resolution Status:

  • Cerner is currently working on the issue and we will keep users updated on the status of its resolve.

Current Workaround:

  • Android users can download the Camera Capture Application from the App Store and use it for taking and uploading photos to the patients chart.

  • Ask nursing staff to take the photos from their Zebra phones.

New Order: Refer to EZ Care Coordinator for Pathology Post Discharge

Go-Live Date: February 13, 2023

Summary:

On 2/13/23, the Refer to EZ Care Coordinator for Pathology Post Discharge Order will be available to assist patients that have left the inpatient setting with suspicious or confirmed positive pathology and assist them in finding a PCP and/or Specialist.

Key Points:

Current Process-

Pathology calls the ordering provider regarding positive pathology. This could be hospitalists, family medicine, specialists, or others.

Issues-

The provider has difficulty contacting the patient, family, referring to oncology care, and/or the patient is not established with a Primary Care Provider. The provider may also no longer be on service.

Process as of February 13th-

  1. Provider will place a "Refer to EZ Care Coordinator for Pathology Post Discharge" Order.

  2. The EZ Care Coordinator will receive a message via Message Center with the patient’s information, the reason for care, and reason for PCP/Specialist.

  3. The EZ Care Coordinator will initiate contact with the patient via phone call and coordinate further care.

How does this differ from the Warm Handoff Order?
The Warm Hand Off is intended for patients with a new cancer diagnosis unveiled during their admission.

  • The Why: Capture patients to inform them of the services that are offered amongst the disciplines within the Cancer Center and connect them to these available services prior to discharge.

Is this order meant for Inpatient or Outpatient Visits?

  • Outpatient Only.

  • Patients who have been discharged and their pathology has resulted leaving need for follow up will be assisted by use of the EZ Care Coordinator in facilitating the patient to a UMCP Provider and/or Specialist.

To standardize Synoptic Reports and help ensure they comply with the regulatory requirements of the Commission on Cancer.


WHAT IS EDOCSS?

The Electronic Documentation of Surgery Standards (eDocSS) is an application that allows structured documents and reports to be created and shared with institutions and individuals to support point-of-care workflows. eDocSS is specifically focused on capturing structured data for the requirements related to Synoptic Operative Reports (SORs) and is aligned with the Commission on Cancer standards for content and surgical billing codes.

  • Launches Report for Documentation with 4 available sections.

  • Saves to Documentation in Cerner.

  • Available in the Organizer.

  • Contains all Synoptic Reports created in eDocSS.

CHANGES TO INTERMITTENT TELEMETRY ORDER

Effective: January 4, 2023

Summary

To help with patient flow and resource allotment, the Intermittent Telemetry Order will auto-discontinue after 48 hours; his change will help ensure that patients are not left on the telemetry device when there is no medical necessity.

Key Points

  • Auto-discontinues after 48 hours

  • Mirrors the Continuous Telemetry Order auto-discontinue

  • At 40 hours, nursing will receive a smart zone alert stating that the tele-order will auto-discontinue in 8 hours.

  • Ensures devices are available for patients in need

  • If the patient still needs telemetry, intermittent telemetry will need to be re-ordered.

NEW ORDER: WOUND EVALUATION AND TREATMENT BY PT BURN WOUND/SKIN CARE SERVICES

Effective: February 1, 2023

Summary

On February 1st, 2023, a new order called "Wound Evaluation and Treatment by PT Burn Wound/Skin Care Services" will be activated; this order will replace the majority of existing PT Burn Wound and Skin Care Service Evaluation and Treatment Orders.

Key Points

New Workflow

  1. Order is placed, and Team Requested is selected: Appropriate Team for Patient Needs, PT Burn and Wound or Skin Care/Ostomy Services.

2. This order adds the patient to a Task List.

3. Skin Care Team owns this Task List and will assess the patient to determine the necessary team.

The Skin Care Team will place the Wound Care by PT(Skin Care Services ONLY) Order if PT is needed for the patient. This order will be hidden from Providers.


The following orders will be removed

  • Consult PT for Wound/Dressing Change

    • This order will still be available in the following PowerPlans (Pediatric Burn Plan, Snakebite Plan, Surgery Burn

  • Plan, Trauma and Surgical ICU Plan)

  • PT Wound/Dressing Change

  • Wound Care Eval and Treatment by PT

  • VAC Dressing Eval and Treat by PT

  • VAC Dressing Change by Skin Care Services

Modifying Allergies

Summary

Recently, there was an incident involving a patient receiving a food item that they were severely allergic to due to the miscategorization of a food allergy. When food allergies are not added under the correct category, the allergy information is not transferred to UMC Nutrition Services, which can potentially harm patients.

Personnel Display Name Update 2023

Effective: January 4, 2023


Summary

Beginning on 1/4/2023, the Display Name of all users will be updated to a standard display to ensure names are standardized across Cerner.


Key Points

The Display Name will be formatted to the following:

New Default Format

FirstName LastName, PrimaryCredential

Previous Default Format

LastName Suffix PrimaryCredential, FirstName MiddleName


With the new name format, most first names and last names will mirror what exist in NPPES Registry and/or what was provided upon working at our organization to define the personnel as a user in Cerner.

After the new name format has been applied to all users, the user can submit a formal request to IT Clinical or Clinical Transformation for their Display Name to be manually adjusted.
