Display of the "Modify or Correct" Box

Did you ever tell PowerChart you didn't want to see the "modify or correct" box anymore when wokring with your PowerNotes and then realized you still need it?  Here's how you can get it back!

While in a patient's chart, open the PowerNote page.  In your top toolbar, select the "VIEW" button, and then "CUSTOMIZE".  This will open a small pop-up box with customizable options in it for you.  At the bottom of the box is a drop down that allows you to select what you would like the signed note to do when you reopen it to make changes.  You will want to select PROMPT to have it always allow you the choice again in the future.

Using Spell Checker within PowerChart

How to turn on Spell Checker at a User Level Setting

1. Open a PowerNote.  When entering information into a <Use Free Text> box or and OTHER box field, the Spell Check icon will be located in the top right corner.  Click on the Spell Check icon.

2. Spell Check will begin to automatically run through the Free-Text documentation and stop on words that need your attention or decisions.  The most current content of Stedman's Dictionary is what is available within PowerNote and FirstNet.

*NOTE* This will only run Spell Check in each individual segment and NOT the entire document.

How to Use the "Other" Box

Some providers have experienced difficulty when trying to type a line break (hit the ENTER/RETURN key) into the “other” box that populates when clicking on the “other” term such as in the example below.  The issue being that when you press ENTER to start a new paragraph or line, it will close the box and return to this screen.

This is an easy fix and has to do with a preference in the customize tool of the Powernote.

It's easy enough to fix yourself, but as always if you ever have any questions, do not hesitate to call any other ther Help desks for assistance.

TO FIX:  While in the  “Add Powernote”  screen, click on the "View" button in your toolbar at the top of the screen and choose "Customize."

Now click on the "More" tab and change the drop down on the "What box ENTER behavior" to “create new line” (see below).  A "what box" is the Cerner lingo for the "Other" field that we use for freetext documentation in PowerChart.  Now you will have the ability to add new lines when you hit the ENTER key instead of closing the box.

Please Note: This behavior will now apply to all templates where an “other” box appears.

Banner Bar Changes

March 10th the banner bar will undergo an update.  We really think you will like these new changes.

*The date of birth, age, and gender are compiled together
*When the patient has expired, it will change to display "DECEASED"
    under the name

*Weight is the current "Admit Weight" on the banner bar, bur now
   includes the date it was
   documented
*"Daily Weight" has been added with the date of documentation
*HIE Consent has been added and will display Obtained, Refused, or
   Request Consent

*Attending Provider has been added!
*The encounter type of Inpatient, Outpatient, and Emergency will display
instead of a Cerner defined class.  This will reflect the true encounter type
   for a visit.  Enjoy!

Making a Personal Note Type List

For users of PowerChart who are in the hospital making different types of notes, the default Note Type List is long and cumbersome. Here's just a small portion of it:

It's only a few fairly non-intuitive steps to turn that god-forsaken list into something more like this:

Debra Thornton has created a video walkthough of the steps needed to do this.

You can watch it below or click here to watch it in a new simple window.

Supercharging Auto-Text

I recently found out about a trick that really enables new power in auto-text. Basically, you can insert blanks anywhere in your auto-text that you want to fill out for the patient by inserting an underscore. Then when you insert the auto-text, hitting F3 will move to the next underscore and select it for typing. Super-powerful.

You can watch a relatively short video walk-through of how it works below, or click here for a larger version of the video in a new window.
