Pain Contract Folder - New Name and Location

You can now find the pain contract documentation in a new, more effective location.

The consolidation and move dealt with the problem of two existing pain contract folders:

     1. Patient Pain Contract, and

     2. Pain Contract

Having two of these folders led to a lot of confusion.

The two folders moved and consolidated into one folder, located in a main bucket titled "Pain Contract/Agreements".  This folder will now be nested within Clinical Documents.

In summary, there will no longer be a "Patient Pain Contract" folder.  The only thing scanning staff will need to do, is make sure the pain folder they scan to now is "Pain Contract" and remove the defunct "Patient Pain Contract" from their default list.  This will ensure that all new document scans end up in the proper folder.

Enjoy!

New PowerForm Field - Abdominal Circumference

Clinical nursing staff will be able see and utilize a new data entry field:

Abdominal Circumference.

This is not a mandatory field.   Several clinics have requested this additional field for documentation.  Abdominal Circumference field has been added to the basic general nursing adhoc intake under the Height and Weight tab.  Again, this is not a mandatory field and does not need to be addressed except by the designated clinics.

Enjoy!

UMC Baby Friendly Initiative

Coming soon...

UMC is working towards becoming a "baby friendly" facility.  Working in conjunction with the obstetrical patient services of PNS, TTP OBGYN, and TTP Family Medicine, we are adding a small change to the OB intake forms.

1. Added a new field to the Birth Plan/Requests section of the Initial OB and Supplemental OB powerforms to document prenatal breastfeeding education.

2. Replaced the 'Bottle' choice in the Infanct Feeding Plan section to 'Formula; and made the field required.

Height/Weight Standardization Program

In the near future, there will be put into place a standardized documentation of measurement of height, weight, and BSA.

At this time, the tentative plan is as follows:

BSA (Adult) and BSA (Pedi):  being replaced by BSA (cm)

Body Mass Index (in):  will use the Body Mass Index (cm) only

Height (in):  will use the Height (cm) only

Body Mass Index Estimated (inches):  will use the Body Mass Index Estimated (cm) only

Height Estimated (in):  will use the Height Estimated (cm) only

This is subject to change between now and go-live.  Calculators will remain in place for your convenience.  Thank you for your patience with this change.

"Change" Button De-Activation

Due to safety issues, the interprofessional team of Use & Standards has made the decision to de-activate the "Change" button located in the top organizer toolbar.  This change is scheduled to take place on June 25th.

Also, with the coming implementation of single signon (or LDAP) the "change" button would be discontinued regardless. So the decision was made to do it at this time.  LDAP is the tap-badge system for logging into the computer/powerchart system that is currently be used at UMC.

Resend Functionality

The option called “Resend…” for prescriptions has been renamed to “Print Rx”.  The actual functionality of this option has not changed, but the name more closely reflects what that option is really to be used for.  To clarify, this is basicially a re-print button only.

The “Print Rx” option pops the same window that used to open for “Resend…” except it does not show the warning stating, “Send to Pharmacy is not available on resend action.”

Slow Computer?

Slow Cputer?  Time to Reboot

Have you had a computer that runs slow, or locks up, or all of a sudden won't print?  Might be time to reboot!  It's a good idea to keep your computer running smoothly, to shut it down every once in a while.  Turning them off over the weekend is a great plan to have within your department.  In the end, it will keep the computer (and you!) much happier.

Business Centricity (IDX) Reminder

A reminder to our IDX users...anyone who arrives patients, the encounter or "date of service" is not created until the arrival message is interfaced into powerchart (essentially turning the patient green).  NEVER turn the patient green by arriving the patient manually in powerchart. All arrivals must come from Business Centricity (IDX). If you are having issues with patients turning green, please call the helpdesk at 743-4357.

Thank you for your help in this matter.
