Security Updates at UMC - CD/USB Usage

Due to HIPAA and HITRUST requirements, all external media (CD/USB) used at UMC will now be encrypted.  IT Security will be pushing out a new security product called Cryptzone to your department’s computers.  Cryptzone is designed to encrypt USB devices such as thumb drives as well as CD/DVDs.  When the media is plugged into a computer it will display the following:

By clicking “Continue” the drive will be encrypted (secured) and the user will be prompted to setup a passcode for the CD/DVD or thumb drive.  If the user clicks “cancel” they will still be able to read and remove data but not write to the device.

If you would like for the IT Security team to come to your department and talk to your staff about how Cryptzone works and answer any questions that your employees may have we can schedule time to do so.  If you have any questions, please contact: phillip.alexander@umchealthsystem.com
